This event was jointly hosted by the Ministry of Education, Malaysia, UCSI University and also IEEE RAS Malaysia chapter. The main objective of this event was to show case some of the advanced engineering projects build in UCSI by the engineering faculty staffs and students from various engineering faculties to the school students across Malaysia not only to motivate the students to become future engineers but also to show them how Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics [STEM] can play a part in their education. There are more than 20 different projects were displayed for the students.

Two projects were displayed from the Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering Faculty. The first one is the Flying and walking Drone and the next one was Automated car parking system.More than 200 students from different schools visited the booth and gained knowledge .The working model of both the projects were demonstrated infront of the students.Students showed keen interest in the project design and applications.

Dr.M.K.A.Ahamed Khan and Dr.Elango Natarajan, Ir.Fahri took the lead role in explaining the projects.

The event ended with a closing speech by the committee MC at 5.00pm. Certificates and awards were given for the best students teams

IEEE is the world’s largest professional society dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. IEEE and its members inspire a global community through IEEE’s highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities. In this talk students not only gain the complete spectrum of IEEE Society and the importance of being a Professional IEEE Member, they also exposed to the Access essential and exclusive benefits offered to IEEE members, including technical information, networking opportunities, career development, and member discounts.

At UCSI, Faculty of Engineering, Engineering society subject is a faculty subject for all the division students. In the engineering professional world creating a good network to build a strong career is a must. It is important for those enrolled in this subject to know the value of a professional society and gain knowledge- how to enroll and get maximum benefit out of it.

The event started  at 3.00 pm with a key note address from Mr.Shahid mansoor, Lecturer, Faculty of engineering .During the key note address Mr.Shahid Mansoor introduced the event speaker  Dr. Mohamed khan [Assis.Prof, Faculty of Engineering , IEEE Member,IEEE Robotics and automation society ,Malaysia chapter, IEEE UCSI STUDENT BRANCH COUNSELLOR ] .Later Dr. Mohamed khan briefed the audience [75Engineering Degree level students, ,also 2 faculty staffs] the vision, mission and the complete IEEE organization structure and its benefits.

During the speech Dr. Mohamed khan motivated the students to be an Integral part of the society. During his talk the value behind RAS [Robotic and Automation Society] and the importance of having UCSI IEEE Students Branch also addressed. This information was well received by the Mechatronic students. More than 30 students showed keen interest to register for IEEE membership. The names were taken, sooner Dr. Mohamed khan will follow up this matter. The event ended at 5 pm.

Quest Lecture Delivered By University Of Queensland Professors, Australia

Venue : UCSI University, Block G0111, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Date : 9 October, 2018
Time : 3.00pm – 5pm
Event Organizer : Dr.Lim Wei Hong & Dr.M.K.A.Ahamed Khan

The event started at 2.00pm with a key note speech from Dr.Lim .During his talk Dr.Lim welcomed the two professors, i.e., Prof Dr. David Mee (Mechanical) & Assoc Prof Dr. Tony Howes (Chemical), from University of Queensland. More than 100 students and 10 staffs from various engineering faculties attended this talk:

The details of the talk is below:

Talk 1

Speaker: Professor Dr. David Mee (Mechanical Engineering)

Title: Air-breathing propulsion: From car engines and scramjets

Abstract: Most propulsion systems for aircraft are based on burning fuel in air. It is the oxygen in the air that is used to react with and release the chemical energy stored in the fuel. In contrast, the launch of spacecraft is achieved using rockets that carry both the fuel and the oxidiser. It is necessary to carry the oxidizer in a rocket if it is operating outside of the earth’s atmosphere where there is no air and so no oxygen available to combust with the fuel. This makes rockets heavy. However, during at least part of the time during a launch of a rocket into space it flies through the earth’s atmosphere. What are the prospects for a high-speed engine for launch of rockets that “breathe” air to use the oxygen in the air to burn the fuel? Scramjet engines offer the prospect of this type of launch. The presentation will cover air-breathing engines from internal combustion engines, through to jet engines and scramjets.

Talk 2

Speaker: Assoc Prof Dr. Tony Howes (Chemical Engineering)

Title: Turbidity in the Brisbane River from a Chemical and Environmental Engineering Perspective

Abstract: The health of the Brisbane River has been affected by large amounts of suspended sediment which reduce the water clarity and sunlight penetration. This presentation will look at this issue and how Chemical and Environmental Engineering researchers at The University of Queensland have tackled to problem to help understand what is causing the problems and potentially how to improve the water quality.

The event ended with a closing speech by Dr.Lim at 5.00pm
