Event Organizer and Representative: IEEE-OES Singapore, Dr. Ahmad Anas Yusof – IEEE-RAS-Malaysia
Sponsored: IEEE-RAS Malaysia
Congratulations to the National AUV Team Panther and Tuah!!!!
National Team AUV Panther has won the second fastest AUV in the qualification rounds, finishing the 10-meter qualifying range in 10.3 seconds. Having completed the first task in the final round, the team has been ranked 7th place from 46 competitors around the globe. The competing teams came from Russia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Sri Lanka, China, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Indonesia.
SAUVC is a distinguished competition and discussion platform among underwater robotics teams worldwide. The event is organized by the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society of Singapore with support from Singapore Polytechnic. UTeM Team AUV Panther and Tuah are represented by students from FKM, FKE and FTK, accompanied by IEEE-RAS representative, Dr. Ahmad Anas Yusof.
The competition is a great learning ground for students to experience the challenges of AUV system engineering and develop skills in the related fields of mechanical, electrical and software engineering. The SAUVC competition challenges all teams to build an AUV which can perform given tasks. These tasks are simulations of tasks that the operational AUVs would have to be able to perform. The competition is held in a swimming pool and each team’s AUV will have to perform 4 tasks. The speed and accuracy at which the AUV performs tasks will be used to decide the winner of the competition. The tasks involve four widely faced challenges underwater such as AUV navigation, visual identification, acoustic localization and robotic manipulation.
