4th Engineering Research Symposium (4th EUReS)

On April 3, 2024, the University of Wollongong Malaysia’s School of Engineering held its 4th Engineering Research Symposium themed “Sustainable Synergy: Co-Creating Our Future.” The event served as a dynamic platform for undergraduate students to exhibit and present their Final Year Projects (FYP) and Integrated Design Projects. It featured engaging research talks from industry experts and an inspiring poster exhibition. A key highlight was the presentation of the Integrated Design Project, “Innovation Segregation and Sorting System for Construction Waste,” which addressed significant environmental challenges in collaboration with the construction industry. The symposium attracted 90 third- and fourth-year students, showcasing their commitment to engineering innovation. Dr. Sivajothi, Chairperson and event advisor, played a crucial role in organizing the event. Dr. Mohamed Khan, former Chair of IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (IEEE RAS), evaluated the projects and presented awards, enhancing the symposium’s prestige and fostering discussions on sustainable engineering solutions.

BattleBots Tug of War

On May 11, 2024, the E3S2 proudly hosted the BattleBots Tug of War Robotic Competition at the CETaL Multipurpose Hall & Undercroft Seminar Room, UTP. The event featured two thrilling categories: LEGO Mindstorm for school students and Arduino Uno for university students. Prof. Dr. Tang Tong Boon kicked off the competition with an inspiring opening speech, setting the stage for an exhilarating series of tug-of-war battles that drew 180 enthusiastic attendees. Utilizing the Elo Ranking System, the competition highlighted top performers across primary, secondary, and university levels. Under the coordination of Ts Dr. Azrina Abd Aziz, the event concluded with a vibrant closing ceremony. Assoc. Prof. Ts Dr. Mohammad Naufal bin Mohammad Saad delivered the closing remarks, while Mr. Ashraf bin Arif presented awards to the standout competitors. The BattleBots Tug of War Robotic Competition showcased impressive talent and innovation, celebrating the spirit of robotics and engineering across all levels.

UTeM Research And Innovation Engineering Day 2024 (RADIATE 2024)

The ‘Research and Innovation Engineering Day’ (RADIATE 2024) was held on June 12, 2024, organized by Fakulti Teknologi dan Kejuruteraan Elektrik (FTKE) UTeM and co-sponsored by IEEE RAS Malaysia. This event brought together presentations of student projects, including Integrated Project Design (IDP), Bachelor Projects (PSM), and Diploma Projects (ProDIP), in a single day at FTKE. The program served as an evaluation platform for 336 students, involving all Year 3 and Year 4 Bachelor of Electrical Engineering with Honours, Bachelor of Mechatronics with Honours, and 2nd Year Diploma in Electrical Engineering students. IEEE RAS recognized outstanding
projects with special awards presented to three recipients: Lean Hoong Lim for his study on palm oil frond cutting mechanisms, Chan Yan Kang for his IoT-based pesticide spraying system, and Nurafiqah Aliah Binti Qhairuddin for her work on outdoor autonomous mobile robot path planning. The event concluded with a closing ceremony, where FTKE Dean Dr. Hidayat Zainuddin and IEEE RAS Chair Dr. Muhammad Fahmi bin Miskon presented the awards.

Discourse Forum And PPE Challenge

On June 20, 2024, the School of Engineering, coordinated by Dr. Sivajothi, hosted an event from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM, featuring a Discourse Forum and a Safety Challenge focused on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Seventy attendees participated in this day of insightful discussions and hands-on activities. The morning Discourse Forum was a key highlight, moderated by Ir Cheang Kok Meng, with industry leaders Mr. Ragupathy R. J., Mr. Loh Chun Seng, and Ts. Dr. Gajendra Balasingham as speakers. They addressed the theme “Preserving Ethical Integrity: Engineers Confronting AI Challenges,” discussing the ethical dilemmas engineers face with AI
integration and strategies for maintaining moral standards in technological advancements. In the afternoon, the event shifted to the “Engineering Safety: PPE Function & Application Challenge,” where participants engaged in practical activities to explore PPE’s critical role in workplace safety, enhancing their understanding of its functionality and application in various industries.

Report Writing Workshop : 22nd June 2024

On June 22, 2024, the IEEE student chapter at UCSI hosted a well-attended Report Writing Workshop, drawing around 65 participants. Led by Dr. Mastaneh and moderated by Assistant Professor Dr. Mohamed Khan, the 1.5-hour workshop aimed to enhance participants’ skills in report writing, a critical tool for presenting complex topics, research findings, and recommendations. The session provided both theoretical and practical knowledge, focusing on the key aspects of effective report writing, including the presentation of findings and meeting professional and academic expectations. Dr. Mastaneh addressed common challenges, such as maintaining objectivity and accuracy, while discussing practical examples to illustrate best practices and common pitfalls. The interactive format of the workshop facilitated active engagement, enabling participants to gain valuable insights and address their individual concerns. The session successfully equipped attendees with a comprehensive understanding of effective report writing techniques.

UTM Research And Innovation Engineering Day 2024 (RADIATE 2024)

The Department of Electronic Systems Engineering hosted the MJIIT Final Year Project Symposium on Friday, 28th June 2024, from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Dewan Azman Hashim, Menara Razak, UTM KL. This year’s event featured a poster exhibition format, allowing students to present their final year projects through engaging visual displays and brief interactions with attendees. The symposium, coordinated by Dr Husni Hani Jameela Sapingi, showcased the work of 70 students from diverse fields including Chemical Process Engineering, Mechanical Precision Engineering, Electronic System Engineering, and Software Engineering. Dr. Mohammed Khan represented IEEE RAS as one of the evaluators, providing valuable feedback and contributing to the assessment of the students’ projects through a robust developed rubric. The event successfully highlighted the innovative and high-quality work of the students, fostering an environment of academic excellence and collaborative learning.
