The event started with a brief introduction about the Korean institute and their current research activities by Prof. Jong at 3 pm. Dr.Khan briefed the audience the importance of IEEE and also IEEERAS role in Malaysia. Participants are encouraged to be the part of IEEE and IEEERAS. After the drive talk a technical seminar talk on Power electronics and drives focusing on mainly the emerging Technologies and trends was briefed. In the recent years the advancement in power electronics and electric motor drives has gone through tremendous evolution, leading to many applications such as transportation systems, robotics, cotton and paper mill drives and lightning control. Energy conservation and green energy associated with global warming phenomenon plays an important role and are the latest trends of the 21 st century.
Electric drives and power electronics have greater impact on the 21 st century trends. Latest technology evolutions in intelligent control techniques like genetic algorithm, fuzzy logic and neural network have resulted in more complex inter disciplinary nature which is a real challenge to the engineers.

In this talk the recent advances and future trends of power electronic devices and electric drives also the control techniques was widely reviewed giving application examples.

A practical demonstration combined with solar energy conversion techniques with advanced solar tracking methods was held during the seminar. The event ended at 5 pm.
