The event started with Dua and a key note address from Dr. Ahamed khan at 3.00pm. During the key note address Dr. Ahamed khan briefed the audience [3 faculty staffs and 32 Engineering Degree level students, out of which 18 from Electrical division, 3 from Mechatronics , 11from Electronics division , about the role of IEEE, IEEERAS and the importance of attending the seminar. Electric motor system has been changing tremendously over past few decades. From electromechanical starters controlled manually to automated electromechanical starter system, later locally controlled electronic variable speed drives to automated electronic variable speed drives system. Now, network integrated electric drives system which communicates with various actuators, sensors and controllers. Along with the advancement in the electric motor control and starter system, problems associated to the system also get advanced. In this seminar talk, many new issues which maintenance personnel need to understand before planning any schedule and preventive maintenance in most electric motor drive system had been explained. A special focus was also given on the high efficient motor and its acceptance in Malaysian Industrial sectors.
Dr.Ahamed khan also briefed the audience how the knowledge gained during the seminar talk can be integrated in to the student’s program structure, especially the subjects like power electronics and electric drives. The application of motors combined with the converters and control system theory was well elaborated. Students taking power electronics and motor drives subjects are asked to use the information to come out with a course assignment and some of the technical information will also be integrated during their final exam questions.
In UNISEL, one the subject called Industrial seminar is offered, for this subject it is compulsory for all the students enrolled to attend at least one technical seminar talk. Totally 10 students registered for industrial seminar subject gained full credit through this seminar.
